Important Information

P.E Days

During the Autumn Term, our P.E will be outdoors on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. On P.E days, children should come to school dressed in their P.E kits please. They should be dressed appropriately depending on the weather. Please also ensure that children have sensible and supportive trainers or PE plimsoles for indoor wear. All watches and earrings will need to be removed or covered during these sessions so please make sure children can independently tape them up or remove their earrings and put them back in.

Stationery

All stationery that is needed throughout the school day will be provided by school and children will be responsible for looking after it in their table teams. It is not necessary for children to bring their own pencil cases, equipment or fiddle toys into school (unless this has been agreed or is on a child's specific learning plan).

Clothing

Please ensure that all clothing and belongings are clearly labelled and are appropriate for the weather. It is your child's responsibility to look after their things; if items go missing, they will be asked to check in the Lost Property Bin.

Water Bottles

All water bottles should be clearly labelled and filled with water, not juice, please. Water bottles will be kept in the classroom and children will have many opportunities to drink and refill their bottles throughout the school day.

Reading Books and Records

Reading records will be checked weekly on a Thursday. In Year 5/6, children are expected to change their own reading for pleasure books when necessary, once they have been completed. Please encourage your child to read at home, three times a week is expected please. All reads, whether independent or not, require an adult signature please. All signed home reads will go towards our reading challenge milestones; your home support is really appreciated.

Weekly Homework:

  • Reading: To read at least 3 times per week their 'reading for pleasure' text.
  • Maths: Hit the Button for times table, division and square number consolidation.
  • Spelling: Choose 5 target statutory words from the Y5/6 statutory word list (children will be sent home with their target words after our Big Spell at the end of each full term).
  • Spelling consolidation: Children should practise and consolidate the spelling rules taught in class during Active Spelling. The termly list will be available on our class page (link below) and shared on Class Dojo. A paper copy will also be sent home at the start of each term.

In the Spring Term - from January onwards - Year 6 will be given maths, reading and SPaG booklets to complete weekly at home in preparation for their SATS in May. More information to follow.

Thank you for your continued support at home.
