Communication and Language

The children will be developing their speaking, listening and understanding skills throughout their learning in Class One.  Adults will help by modelling the use of language and actively use new words to widen the childrens' vocabulary.

During Circle Time, we will be discussing how to find our way around our classroom and school and exploring how to take turns. We will be asking questions about stories that we have listened to and make sensible suggestions about what might happen next in a story.

PSED

This term we will be focussing on our school values of kindness and courage.

We will be embedding our daily rhythm and routines, including how to share and take turns and wait for our turn.

Our SCARF topics this term are 'being my best' and 'growing and changing'.

Our RE topic this term is 'Why are some places and objects special or sacred?' from the new Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus.

Physical Development

This year we will be developing our gross and fine motor skills through a wide range of activities, including Drawing Club, PE and yoga sessions, using our trim trails, threading, fastening our clothing and coats, using cutlery, building balancing trails, using scissors, large mark making, painting and a whole lot more!

Our PE sessions this term will focus on core stability, changing direction, throwing and catching skills and sports day events.

Literacy

Our Reception children will continue their journey into Read Write Inc phonics and will bring home new books each week to practise at home.

We expect all children to read at least three times a week and for this to be noted in reading records after every read by an adult.

Our Preschool children will be starting to learn the pictures that go alongside our phonics sounds and will be continuing to learn about rhyme and alliteration.

If you have any questions regarding your child's reading, please get in touch via Class Dojo or speak to Mrs Turnbull.

Reception children will be developing and applying their new phonic knowledge when writing independently and with an adult. They will be practising writing labels and short captions and will be learning to recognise and write capital letters.

Children will be taking part in Drawing Club sessions each week.  These sessions aim to develop a love of stories and encourage children to find joy in writing and mark making.

Maths

We use the Mastering Number and White Rose Maths programmes as a guide for our planning.

This term, Reception children will be learning how to use the provision areas inside and outside and where things go at tidy up time. They will continue to develop their subitising and counting skills and explore the composition of numbers within and beyond 10. They will begin to identify when two sets are equal or unequal and learn doubles to 10. They will begin to connect quantities to numerals to 10 and beyond.

Pre school children will be exploring large and small groups of objects and learning how to build with shapes and different objects outside. They will be exploring patterns and repeats and hearing and saying number names. They will continue to explore position and space and build with a purpose, naming shapes and their position.

As much as possible, our maths sessions will take place outside.

Understanding the World

During the summer term, we will be learning all about journeys that people and animals take and will be finding out about the historical and most recent NASA space missions!

We will then go on to explore the mystical world of pirates and mermaids, the songs that they sing and the places they visited. We will even have a visit from a local sea shanty singer!

We will search for signs of summer and observe seasonal changes in nature during our walks around the local area and will further develop our skills when exploring position and direction using maps.

Expressive Art and Design

This term, the children will be looking at the artists Andy Golsworthy and Henri Matisse and will be attempting their own transient art and paper craft collages.

We will be developing our drawing and printing skills and creating self portraits and planet mono prints.

The children will continue to develop their design skills by using the construction materials inside and outside and also develop their making and evaluating skills using junk box materials.

We will be extending our role play by using different props and materials when pretending.

We will be singing songs and listening to poems related to our learning.
